About Little Sun Rising
We are a sister-brother team of the “rising” generation. We were raised in the amazing multi-cultural city of Toronto, and are deeply rooted in our family history in Southern Africa. Our appreciation for the amazing people we have met has driven our sense of responsibility. Our first understanding of the fantastic impact of individual solar lamps came when we distributed solar lanterns to the students at a school in Botswana in July 2018. Our passion to get more solar power to more students was ignited!
Our Story
Hi! We are Sarah Herring and Andrew Herring.
We are so excited about solar lamps going to off-grid students that we want to do more! We spent a year researching and reaching out. We have partnered with a Berlin-based solar lantern developer, Little Sun, and their Little Sun Foundation, as well as Relate Social Enterprise, to develop a non-for-profit venture, Little Sun Rising, to fund both solar lanterns and bracelet makers in South Africa.
Sarah is a graduate of Rice University in Houston, TX and Canada’s National Ballet School professional ballet programme. Sarah is a passionate traveler and global citizen, and has spent much time off-grid in Southern Africa.
Andrew is a student at Brown University in Providence, RI and a graduate of Crescent School in Toronto. Andrew is passionate about music of all kinds and plays guitar, piano and saxophone. Most days he can also be found on the squash court. Andrew loves his circle of friends, including those in Southern Africa.
